Hamza Chowdhury is one of two British-Asians currently playing in the Premier League. A fan of Leicester City since childhood, the 22-year-old currently represents them at the highest level, having made 37 Premier League appearances to date.
Born and raised in Leicestershire, Hamza is fluent in Bengali and often visits his family in Bangladesh. “It’s my heritage and my culture,” he said whilst speaking to the BBC. “Growing up in England, you can live in a bit of a bubble. To go there opens your eyes to see what kinds of struggles people actually go through.”
His faith is also important to him, and he recites prayers before every game. He is grateful for the support of British-Asian fans, and hopes to see more representation in the English leagues.
